What’s the difference between mechanical and electronic paintball Guns

What kind of technology do you prefer? However, you know that you desire a paintball weapon. Both types of paintball guns can shoot paintballs but in very different ways. You’ll be able to make a more informed decision if you understand the differences and benefits of each type of gun.

Paintball Gun Basics

All paintball guns (also known as paintball markers) are designed to fire paintballs using compressed air or carbon monoxide at high velocities.

When a paintball gun is fired, a tiny bolt immediately forces a ball into the barrel and seals it. According to the detailed guideline of firing by Thepaintballhub that a pump then releases pressurized gas, which increases within the barrel and moves the ball out of the barrel’s end.

How a gun advances the ball into the barrel, seals it, and sends gas into the nozzle separates it from other firearms. Although firearms operate in various ways, we can group them into two major categories: mechanical and electrical.

On the other hand, electronic weapons must be charged by a battery and have an electronic circuit to fire. Automatic rifles have a mechanical activation mechanism. There are also hybrid electrical firearms that combine the two types.

Mechanical Paintball Guns

The backlash paintball gun is the most commonly used type of moderately mechanical paintball gun. When the trigger is pulled, a bullet is ejected, which causes a spring to propel it forward, forcing the paintball further into the barrel.

After the ball has been loaded into the barrel, the bolt will strike a pin, which will release the compressed air and allow it to run down the barrel. The growing air force forces the bolt back to the original location. The phrase “blowback” refers to air blowing back into the position of the bolt

Types of mechanical guns

There are numerous automatic firearms available at various price points. They range from inexpensive plastic pumps to over a thousand dollars in precision-milled firearms. Here, we shall explore the most prevalent and accessible blowback automatic guns.

The required maintenance

Mechanical markers are often highly trustworthy. They should be cleaned and oiled regularly to keep them in good condition. Replace the o-rings as necessary. Disassembly is usually a breeze.

If a problem develops with one of the components, a replacement part is not expensive, and a mechanically-inclined person can typically fix it without too much hassle.

The Advantages

  • Mechanical guns are typically less expensive than electronic pointers and are more commonly available for people starting up in paintball.
  • They usually operate on CO2 or compressors and are easy to set up and use, even if you have no prior expertise with paintball.
  • Many mechanical pointers from various manufacturers utilize the same sized pieces, making replacements simple to find.

The Disadvantages

Mechanical pistols are often slower, less accurate, and less consistent than electronic ones. Each shot needs a different amount of air, and the paintball’s speed varies from one attempt to the next. These factors are required for the paintball to be expelled from the barrel (usually by only a few fps, but this can affect accuracy).

  • Mechanical guns are required to be set before the fire, unlike electronic weapons, which are often much quieter.
  • The unit needs to have a higher airflow for mechanical guns to fire. Whereas the force needed to fire an electronic weapon can be as low as 200 pounds per square inch, an automatic pistol typically needs between 600 and 800 pounds per square inch. It results in fewer rounds per tank of air.

Electronic Paintball Guns

Electronic guns, usually known as electro-pneumatic guns, fire paintballs using battery-powered circuit boards to activate electromagnets.

The trigger’s pull instructs the electronic circuit to shoot, thus activating the gun. Due to its programmability, it can quickly implement a three-round burst or other firing modes into a circuit board.

Electronic firearms also rely on regulators to ensure a moderate rate of fire. These mechanical devices draw varied air pressure from a tank and deliver it at normal reduced pressure.

Types of Electronic Guns

There are various electronic guns, each with a unique internal configuration. However, even though different guns have manifold valves, regulators, and bolt configurations, the general advantages and disadvantages are nearly identical.

The Required Maintenance

Most electronic weapons require only the most fundamental forms of maintenance, including cleaning and lubricating the moving parts (either with grease or oil, depending on the gun).

Disassembly of electronic markers is often more complicated than that of standard features. They usually come with full instructions on disassembling and reassembling the rifle.

When performing routine maintenance, pay close attention to the directions provided. Electronic weapons’ complexity necessitates an expert to do any major repair or upgrade.

The Advantages

  • Electronic weapons are more constant, accurate, and rapid-fire than mechanical ones.
  • In addition, they can be more compact and lighter in weight than their mechanical counterparts. Because the trigger only needs to engage the circuit board and not the firing mechanism itself, the press on the trigger must be very light and only a few seconds long.
  • Additionally, electronic weapons may operate at a significantly lower pressure than automatic weapons and fire more rounds per tank.

The Disadvantages

Electronic firearms are substantially more expensive and less usable than mechanical ones.

They are challenging to repair and often require expert service for issues or improvements.

They frequently demand pressurized air.

Thus CO2 is not an option. You are responsible for eventually ensuring that your batteries are full.
