Starting college calls for a lot of equipment to get you up and running with your chosen route of study. Some devices will enable you to be your best self and some can be left far behind. Read on to find out the seven most useful machines and devices to take with you to college.

Coffee Machine

Coffee should only be drunk in the appropriate quantities. When consumed correctly, it is a great thing to have in the morning before lectures or late at night for an evening exam session. Even if you don’t like coffee before you start college, you probably will by the end of it. So, investing in a coffee machine for your kitchen is a wise move.

Tablet

A tablet can be a good thing to have for course reading and accessing materials. It can also be an invaluable way of communicating with friends and families back home with a bigger screen and clearer audio. Every student is bound to have a mobile phone, hence why we haven’t mentioned it on our list, but a tablet has more to offer than a phone.

PC or Laptop

Education is undeniably moving onto a more virtual platform. Laptops and PCs are useful for reading, writing, and researching. They provide a source of entertainment and they can also be used to stay in touch with family and friends. It is unlikely that you will find a student who doesn’t have a laptop, and it is not too far of a stretch to see why. Browse some great laptop options for students at Lenovo.com, where there is a range of devices that will suit a range of needs and budgets.

Television

A TV might be less relevant and is up to the individual as to whether or not they want one in their dorm. However, they can be a really useful communal device that can serve the purpose of bringing flatmates together in shared areas. It is a good idea to get to know your flatmates and it can even be nice to spend time all together, especially to combat home sicknesses and feelings of loneliness.

Alarm Clock

Alarm clocks are the biggest recommendation on the list. You can’t always trust a phone to go off at the right time for various reasons – the battery might die, you might accidentally turn it off or preset the wrong day. An alarm clock is also easier to have placed away from the bed, unlike a phone which is normally kept under or close to the pillow. This means there is a bigger motivation to get up and out of bed to turn off the alarm. This means fewer opportunities to snooze back down into the pillow and miss those all-important classes and deadlines.

Fitness Tracker

Fitness trackers in the form of watches can be extremely motivational. It is too easy to slip into unhealthy detrimental habits when you move out on your own for the first time. This includes everything from takeaways to contrabands. These devices enable you to keep track of your vital stats, and exercise habits and some even provide a way of listening to music and communicating.

Location Tracker

Location trackers are useful for managing personal safety. They are also useful for keeping track of things like keys and purses. They are small devices usually powered through a battery and Bluetooth connection that can be tracked by your phone or tablet via an app.

Anyone can have access to this app if they are granted permission so it means that someone such as a parent or a guardian can keep tabs on your location. This may sound a bit extreme, but with the concern around safety with women, in particular, falling victim to crime and violence when isolated after a night out, or even just walking home, it becomes a more attractive option.

Technology saves the day in many ways. For a student, many devices have become essential and valuable assets. Laptops are multipurpose and widespread in educative settings and every student should be equipped with one to get the best out of their studies. Make sure you go prepared!
