Pre-built desktop computers have recently gained popularity due to the shift to online work. Demand for online employment meant having some kind of work-from-home setup, which was not limited to only laptops since desktops are just as effective for work at home. Huawei responded to the increased demand with the release of their Huawei MateStation S, which is a pre-built desktop computer that set the bar high among the somewhat dull competition of pre-built desktops.

Huawei’s membrane keyboard is surprisingly well-designed since it comes in a sleek and thin aesthetic, which goes well with the rest of the build. For a membrane keyboard, the full keyboard layout is fairly decent with evenly spaced keys and an overall clean design. Additionally, the keyboard comes with a fingerprint sensor along the upper right corner, which is quite impressive for a somewhat standard keyboard.

Although Huawei is mainly focused on laptops, they are clearly experienced with computers as shown by their MateStation S. Included in the computer setup is the Huawei MateStation S, a 23.8-inch Huawei Display Monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

Huawei MateStation S

The PC build is fairly small and compact and is seemingly aiming for that sleek and simple yet practical appeal. Air intake is ventilated through the case front with the exhaust located along the panel’s left side. The front side includes a simple power button, USB Type-A port, USB Type-C port, and a single 3.5mm audio jack. On the rear is a simple setup and includes ports for Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, and four USB Type-A.

On the inside, the build provides sufficient space for upgrades since there are two slots for SO-DIMM RAM, two slots for M.2 NVME SSD, and a single SATA port. A graphics card can be installed given the PCle ports, as long as PCle cables are not required since the build cannot connect them.

In essence, the MateStation S is a solid build and especially great for its category since the build is clearly well-designed and thoroughly detailed. Speaking of thorough, simple things like the cable management and ventilation system throughout the build is top-notch and neatly organized.

Powering the build is an AMD Ryzen 5 4600G APU with 8GB DDR4 RAM, and 256GB NVMe SSD. The powerful hardware is more than capable of effortlessly breezing through school and work-related tasks. As for gaming, the build is can provide satisfactory gaming performance but would require tuning down the settings to low for most eSports games.

Huawei Display

The included 23.8-inch Huawei Display is mediocre at best, and comes as a simple monitor with thin bezels and attached to a low-key monitor stand. With an IPS panel at 1080p and 60Hz, the display quality is adequate and provides decent color accuracy, visual details, and viewing angles. For most standard work tasks and casual use, the display is good enough with no issues. Adjusting the monitor is limited to slight vertical tilts and does not rotate. The monitor is VESA mount compatible and can be mounted onto a more flexible arm for increased mobility. For ports, the monitor only comes with a single VGA and one HDMI, which are also found on the MateStation S.

Peripherals

The included peripherals include a standard mouse and keyboard combo, with both described as nothing other than basic. Given the standard 3-button layout, the mouse provides the expected basic functions and is generally sufficient for most users. The keyboard, on the other hand, is somewhat more interesting and appealing.

Conclusion

As a pre-built desktop for office and home use, the Huawei mate station s proves its excellence and easily stands out among its competition. Overall, the build is well-designed, reliably powerful, and offers excellent value at such a reasonable price. Especially as an affordable, compact, and powerful PC, there are very few other builds that can match the MateStation S.
